Senior Systems Engineer - European Sovereign Cloud (Remote)

About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Systems Engineer - European Sovereign Cloud to join our team remotely. This role is pivotal in spearheading the European Sovereign Cloud (ESC) initiative at Amazon Web Services (AWS). As a Senior Systems Engineer, you will leverage your expertise in automation and operations to build, operate, and evolve high-availability AWS services exclusively for EU customers.

What You'll Do

• Oversee the ongoing operations and expansion of the European Sovereign Cloud, ensuring high availability and reliability of services.
• Collaborate with global AWS teams to influence the evolution of AWS services and technology.
• Participate in on-call rotations to resolve incidents occurring outside regular hours.
• Review operational health, identify anomalies, and create actionable bug reports to enhance system performance.
• Engage in the development and testing of scripts to improve workflows and operational efficiency.
• Educate service teams about the complexities of the European Sovereign Cloud, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing.
• Lead the creation and improvement of standard operational procedures (SOPs) and drive operational best practices.
• Mentor junior engineers and lead strategic team efforts across multiple organizational units.

Requirements

• Fluency in written and spoken English is required.
• Experience in Linux OS and network troubleshooting.
• Proficiency in Python, Perl, or another scripting language.
• Experience in systems engineering and site reliability engineering.
• Ability to operate 24x7 high-availability distributed software applications.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as CDK, CloudFormation, or similar.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
• Must be a national of an EU member state and residing in the EU.

Nice to Have

• Experience with monitoring frameworks like CloudWatch, Datadog, or Grafana.
• Experience in performance tuning software applications and optimizing fleet utilization.
• Familiarity with Generative AI technologies and automated deployment tools.
