About the Role

We are looking for a Firmware Engineering Intern - MCU (Remote) to join our dynamic team at Samsara. As a Firmware Engineering Intern, you will have the opportunity to work on cutting-edge technology that powers the Internet of Things (IoT) and contributes to the efficiency and sustainability of various industries. What You'll Do

• Collaborate with firmware engineers to design, develop, and maintain embedded software for our gateway and sensor products.
• Bring up new hardware platforms by configuring I/O and debugging interfaces such as SPI, I2C, UART, CAN, and ADC.
• Implement peripheral drivers, secure bootloaders, and device firmware updates.
• Design protocols and optimize energy consumption for battery-powered sensors and gateways.
• Work cross-functionally with product, full-stack, and quality teams to deliver high-quality embedded software.
• Gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced environment while receiving mentorship from experienced engineers.
• Participate in the entire product development lifecycle, from concept to deployment.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• Solid C programming skills are essential.
• Familiarity with embedded programming concepts and prior experience with MCU development environments and tools (e.g., Segger J-Link, GCC).
• Experience working in bare metal and RTOS-based systems such as Zephyr and/or FreeRTOS.
• Strong problem-solving skills and an analytical mindset for debugging and optimizing code.
• Excitement about sensors, connectivity protocols, and distributed systems.
• Prior projects or coursework related to embedded systems and firmware development are advantageous.

Nice to Have

• Experience with core technologies such as BLE, GPS, LTE, and CAN.
• Ability to thrive in an environment that requires rapid deployment and product iteration based on customer feedback.
