Senior Applied Research Engineer - AI/​ML Focus

About the Role

We’re hiring a Senior Applied Research Engineer to join our high-growth AI company based in Barcelona, Spain. This role offers a unique opportunity to work on cutting-edge foundation models designed to tackle complex enterprise decision-making challenges. As a Senior Applied Research Engineer, you will be part of a deeply technical team focused on large-scale model training, efficiency, and productionization. The environment is highly research-driven with a strong emphasis on real-world performance, scalability, and impact.

What You'll Do

• Profile end-to-end distributed training runs to identify bottlenecks across compute, GPU memory, and inter-GPU communication.
• Improve the efficiency and reliability of large-scale training jobs, contributing to architectural decisions and developing Triton/CUDA kernels as needed.
• Design and implement model scaling, parallelization, and memory optimization techniques for extensive context training workloads.
• Collaborate closely with ML Researchers to diagnose inefficiencies, ensure new ideas scale effectively, and share best practices around model performance.
• Support the productionization and serving of models from the research side, enhancing inference efficiency through techniques such as quantization.

Requirements

• Strong understanding of modern ML architectures and large-scale training pipelines.
• Experience running distributed training jobs across multi-GPU systems.
• Advanced profiling and debugging skills across CPU, GPU, memory, latency, and inter-GPU communication.
• Strong Python skills and experience with model scaling and parallelization approaches, including tensor and pipeline parallelism.
• Familiarity with NCCL, MPI, and distributed communication primitives is highly desirable.
• Knowledge of PyTorch and Triton internals is highly desirable.
• Experience with C++ and CUDA is highly desirable.
