About the Role

We are seeking a Principal Scientist in Bioinformatics to join our team at Genentech. This remote position offers an exciting opportunity to lead innovative research in statistical genetics and AI/ML, focusing on advancing healthcare solutions. You will be at the forefront of our precision medicine strategy, combining human genetic evidence with molecular, cellular, and clinical data to drive impactful discoveries.

What You'll Do

• Lead comprehensive human genetics analyses across various cohorts, ensuring rigorous quality control and employing advanced methodologies such as GWAS and fine-mapping.
• Integrate genetics with functional genomics, utilizing cutting-edge techniques like single-cell RNA sequencing and multiome data to identify causal genes and mechanisms.
• Advance AI/ML applications in genomics, establishing reliable models that translate complex data into actionable insights for therapeutic development.
• Develop scalable software and workflows that enhance accessibility to advanced genetics methods, promoting reproducibility and high-quality standards.
• Provide scientific leadership and mentorship, collaborating with cross-functional teams to shape research strategies and communicate results effectively.
• Maintain scientific excellence through publications and presentations, contributing to strategic collaborations that enhance our research impact.

Requirements

• PhD in Statistical Genetics, Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, or a related field, with postdoctoral experience.
• Demonstrated scientific impact through peer-reviewed publications and evidence of intellectual leadership.
• Strong expertise in statistical genetics, including common and rare variant analysis, study design, and inference.
• Proficient programming skills in Python and/or R, with a commitment to reproducible science.
• Experience with large-scale genomics datasets and modern computational environments.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence across disciplines.

Nice to Have

• Experience developing reusable analytics pipelines or platforms.
• Knowledge of integrating genetics with single-cell data and functional genomics.
• Applied experience with ML in genomics, including model reliability assessment.
