Part-Time Import Export Officer - Engineering Solutions

About the Role

Huxley Bertram Engineering is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Import Export Officer remote to join our team. This part-time role (approximately 20-30 hours per week) is crucial for coordinating our international trade and customs activities, ensuring compliance and efficiency in the import and export of machines, assemblies, parts, and spares globally.

What You'll Do

• Coordinate the overseas shipment and import of machines, assemblies, parts, spares, and returns.
• Prepare, check, and submit all required import and export documentation, including commercial invoices, packing lists, certificates of origin, and supporting declarations.
• Ensure correct tariff classification, valuation, and description of goods, adhering to customs procedures and legislation.
• Liaise with freight forwarders, customs brokers, couriers, and other external parties to ensure smooth shipment processes.
• Maintain accurate import/export records and logs, reconciling shipments against customs or government systems.
• Manage and resolve customs queries, shipment delays, and regulatory issues as they arise.
• Provide clear guidance to internal teams regarding additional documentation and approvals needed.
• Support the maintenance and improvement of import/export procedures and working practices.

Requirements

• Proven experience in import/export, international shipping, or customs administration, preferably in an engineering or manufacturing environment.
• Knowledge of international trade and export procedures, with BCC accredited training being a plus.
• Solid understanding of customs documentation, Incoterms, and the harmonised tariff system.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with confidence in dealing with external agents and stakeholders.
• High attention to detail and a methodical approach to compliance-driven work.
• Ability to work independently and manage tasks effectively in a part-time role.
• Comfortable using Office 365 tools and other business management software.

Nice to Have

• Experience with ClickUp or similar project management tools.
• Additional certifications in international trade or logistics.
