Early/Mid-Career Autonomous Aerospace Systems Engineer - Remote
About the Role
We are seeking an Early/Mid-Career Autonomous Aerospace Systems Engineer to join our innovative team at Sandia National Laboratories. This role offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge autonomous systems technologies that contribute to national security. As an Autonomous Aerospace Systems Engineer, you'll have the chance to collaborate with a team of experts in a dynamic environment, making impactful contributions to high-stakes projects.
What You'll Do
- Collaborate with a team of researchers, engineers, and technologists to develop autonomous flight system technologies and mature them from concept to simulation to flight.
- Develop autonomous flight solutions, including the design of subsystems and payloads, as well as the development of algorithms in flight software for full flight vehicle demonstrations.
- Create physics-based and agent-driven simulation and analysis tools for challenging mission scenarios.
- Implement and lead new projects applying trusted autonomy to high-consequence missions.
- Engage in simulation, laboratory, and field-testing operations at Sandia's laboratories in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
- Support projects from the Autonomy for Hypersonics developmental research portfolio, applying state-of-the-art autonomous systems concepts.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering or a closely related field, or equivalent experience in engineering or scientific research.
- Significant interest and knowledge in autonomous system concepts, including uncertainty, perception, decision-making, and algorithm verification and validation.
- Experience or familiarity with sensing, control, navigation, and/or dynamical systems, particularly in flight vehicle mechanics.
- Ability to acquire and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance.
- Proven ability to work effectively in a collaborative and interdisciplinary team environment.
Nice to Have
- Graduate degree in Aerospace Engineering or a related field.
- Experience in applied aerodynamics, flight mechanics, or trajectory simulation.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as MATLAB®, Simulink®, Python, C/C++, or similar.
