About the Role
We are seeking a Distinguished Engineer to join our team at GEICO. This remote position offers a unique opportunity to lead innovative projects and make a significant impact on our insurance business transformation. As a Distinguished Engineer, you will drive the transition from a traditional IT model to a tech-focused organization, emphasizing engineering excellence and continuous improvement.
What You'll Do
- Provide technical leadership across multiple areas in Underwriting, collaborating with product managers and engineering teams to solve complex problems.
- Develop and execute a technical software development strategy, evolving our tech stack to utilize modern frameworks and solutions.
- Lead the adoption of AI technologies in Underwriting tasks, enhancing efficiency and scalability.
- Design, develop, test, and launch major projects while mentoring and guiding other engineers.
- Ensure the quality, usability, and performance of solutions, sharing best practices across teams.
- Analyze costs and forecasts, integrating them into business plans to support resource requirements.
- Influence and educate leadership at all levels on technical strategies and innovations.
Requirements
- Fluency in at least two modern programming languages such as Java, Kotlin, Golang, or C#.
- 12+ years of professional software development experience, particularly within a Java framework or similar modern languages.
- Experience with microservices architecture, event-driven systems, and tools like Kubernetes and Kafka.
- Proficiency in SQL and NoSQL databases, cloud services (AWS, GCP, Azure), and DevOps concepts.
- Strong understanding of security protocols and data structures.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, startup-like environment.
Nice to Have
- Experience in the Insurance or Underwriting domains.
- Proven ability to integrate AI/ML technologies into applications.
