Data Science Manager - Remote Position at Wikimedia

About the Role

Wikimedia Foundation is seeking a Data Science Manager to lead the Product Analytics team in a fully remote capacity. In this role, you will guide a team of data scientists whose insights are critical in shaping strategies and tactics that align with our vision: a world where every individual can freely share in the sum of all knowledge. As the Data Science Manager, you will collaborate with product managers, designers, engineers, and colleagues across the Wikimedia movement to produce actionable data and insights that inform decision-making.

What You'll Do

• Oversee the timely delivery of accurate quantitative data and insights to inform strategy and guide product decisions.
• Manage a team of approximately seven data scientists, fostering a collaborative and inclusive culture.
• Mentor team members on critical thinking, data storytelling, and stakeholder engagement.
• Partner with Experiment Platform & Data Engineering teams to build data products that enhance accessibility.
• Collaborate with product teams to cultivate a practice of data-informed decision-making.
• Continuously develop and improve experimentation and measurement best practices.
• Ensure data accuracy and consistency in reporting through shared processes.

Requirements

• Deep experience with experimental design and statistics, particularly in analyzing user experience data.
• Prior experience managing a team and a commitment to fostering equity, inclusion, and diversity.
• Experience with large-scale data processing tools such as Hadoop, Hive, Presto, and Spark.
• Strong communication skills to convey findings and recommendations effectively.
• Ability to navigate ambiguity and complexity in a nonprofit environment.

Nice to Have

• Exposure to ethical data management and privacy practices.
• Experience with Superset, Growthbook, or similar data visualization tools.
• Contributions to Wikimedia projects or other open-source initiatives.
