Contract: Senior Platform Engineer - Kubernetes & AWS

About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Platform Engineer to join Upwork's Hybrid Workforce Solutions team. As a Senior Platform Engineer remote, you will play a crucial role in enhancing our platform's capabilities and ensuring the seamless operation of our Kubernetes-based solutions.

What You'll Do

• Contribute to the operations of existing installations and new Kubernetes-based solutions.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to support their requests for operating and troubleshooting services.
• Guide scalability and stability improvements early in the development lifecycle.
• Implement and maintain microservices architectures, focusing on high availability deployments on Kubernetes clusters.
• Utilize observability and alerting components such as Prometheus and Grafana to monitor system performance.
• Work with AWS cloud infrastructure, including VPC, IAM, EC2, and more.
• Employ Terraform and ArgoCD for infrastructure provisioning and continuous deployment.
• Advocate for security best practices related to infrastructure and platform design.

Requirements

• Hands-on experience with microservices architectures and Kubernetes.
• Proficiency in at least one programming/scripting language, such as Python or Bash.
• Experience with AWS cloud infrastructure and container orchestration platforms like EKS.
• Strong knowledge of DevOps/GitOps practices.
• Excellent communication skills to support the engineering community.

Nice to Have

• Experience with service mesh solutions, particularly Istio.
• Hands-on experience with GCP cloud infrastructure.
• Experience supporting ML workloads in Kubernetes.
