About the Role

Join Western Union as a Solution Architect in a remote capacity, where you will be at the forefront of transforming the financial services industry. This role is pivotal in leading the design and delivery of scalable, cloud-native microservices that power our digital platform. As a hands-on technical expert, you will partner with distributed engineering teams to ensure reliability, performance, and architectural excellence.

What You'll Do

• Develop and implement new software solutions while maintaining and improving existing software.
• Ensure software functionality is optimized and organized for performance.
• Recommend improvements to existing software programs and troubleshoot application issues.
• Serve as a service lead, collaborating with development teams across a geographically distributed structure.
• Review design and code from various scrum teams to enforce service level standards.
• Maintain quality and engineering metrics for specific microservices as a service owner.
• Provide coaching to junior engineers, fostering their growth and development.
• Work independently on complex projects, driving innovation and efficiency.

Requirements

• 7+ years of professional experience with a BS in Computer Science or related fields, or 5+ years with an MS.
• Hands-on experience in designing and implementing large-scale microservices.
• Proficiency in modern programming languages and frameworks including Java Spring Boot, DynamoDB/Postgres, Kafka, Redis, and Apache Camel.
• Strong understanding of computer science fundamentals, data structures, algorithms, OOP, and OOA/D.
• Experience with architecture design concepts and the ability to communicate these to a broad team.
• Hands-on experience building enterprise-scale APIs for web and mobile applications.
• Familiarity with agile development methodologies, TDD, and CI/CD practices.
• Experience in cloud-based architecture designs, particularly with AWS.

• Experience with customer-facing applications using open-source technologies.
• Understanding of frontend tech stacks.
