Java Systems Developer - Contract-to-Hire

About the Role

We are seeking a talented Java Systems Developer remote to join our team at Dahl Consulting. This position is ideal for someone with a strong background in Java and a passion for enhancing enterprise applications. As a Java Systems Developer remote, you will play a crucial role in supporting and improving our client’s critical systems in the insurance industry.

What You'll Do

• Analyze system behavior and identify root causes of issues across multiple integrated systems.
• Collaborate with technical teams to resolve issues and drive long-term, sustainable solutions.
• Monitor patterns in support issues and recommend preventative measures.
• Design and implement configuration changes and integrations aligned with coding and architectural standards.
• Contribute to technical design discussions and document solution approaches, including impacts on upstream and downstream systems.
• Identify opportunities for support automation and process improvements.
• Develop test scenarios and test cases; perform unit, system, regression, and acceptance testing.
• Create, maintain, and interpret automated test results.

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional development experience, particularly as a Java Systems Developer remote.
• Experience troubleshooting complex, integrated systems and relational databases (SQL Server).
• Proficiency in Java with Spring or strong experience in a comparable object-oriented language; OutSystems experience is a plus.
• Familiarity with REST APIs, messaging and integration patterns, and diagnosing application and server logs.
• Familiarity with Git and Azure DevOps (or similar) for version control and work management.
• Strong sense of ownership, accountability, and follow-through.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical partners.
• Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.

Nice to Have

• Experience with OutSystems.
• Knowledge of the insurance industry.
