Senior Systems Engineer - European Sovereign Cloud (Remote)

About the Role

We are hiring a Senior Systems Engineer to join our team at Amazon Web Services (AWS) for the European Sovereign Cloud (ESC) initiative. This Senior Systems Engineer remote position is a unique opportunity to lead the launch of a groundbreaking cloud service tailored for EU customers.

What You'll Do

• Oversee the launch of the ESC in 2025, collaborating with global AWS teams.
• Enhance the operational health of AWS services, including EC2, S3, and Lambda.
• Contribute to the development of high-availability AWS services, ensuring reliability and performance.
• Participate in on-call rotations to resolve incidents and improve service availability.
• Write actionable bug reports and execute changes following a structured change management process.

Requirements

• Fluency in written and spoken English.
• Bachelor's degree in computer science or related IT discipline, or equivalent industry experience.
• Experience with scripting languages such as Bash, Python, or Ruby.
• Knowledge of Linux and networking fundamentals.
• Experience in operating high-availability, distributed software applications.

Nice to Have

• Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools like CloudFormation, Ansible, or Terraform.
• Familiarity with monitoring frameworks such as CloudWatch or Datadog.
• Ability to execute standard operating procedures and follow operational best practices.
