About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Data Engineer to join Bayer's Data & AI Team. This Senior Data Engineer remote position offers a unique opportunity to work on developing and operating reliable data pipelines that enable timely access to high-quality data assets. You will collaborate with a dynamic team of technical experts, including data scientists and product managers, to create data products that drive innovation and enhance efficiency across the pharmaceutical value chain.

What You'll Do

• Develop and operate reliable data pipelines from source to product, ensuring compliant access to data in the context of FAIR data products.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to capture data-related business requirements and translate them into efficient technical solutions.
• Work with architects and subject matter experts to manage dependencies between data solutions, ensuring a healthy data ecosystem.
• Mentor junior engineers while upholding high standards in code review, testing, and documentation.
• Actively exchange best practices and standard technical patterns to maintain a scalable data landscape.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in data engineering or data operations, delivering production-grade data pipelines.
• Strong ownership of deliverables and commitment to clear documentation and sustainable data engineering practices.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency in SQL, Python, PySpark, or Spark for building scalable data pipelines.
• Experience with ETL/ELT tools such as AWS Glue, dbt core, or Pentaho.
• Understanding of data architecture patterns and modern lakehouse table formats (Apache Iceberg, Delta Lake).
• Experience with GxP and computerized system validation is a plus.

Nice to Have

• Experience with cost and performance optimization for cloud data systems.
• Familiarity with data product concepts and lifecycle management.
• Hands-on experience with modern data processing frameworks like Databricks or Snowflake.
