About the Role

We are seeking a talented Senior Backend Software Engineer (Elixir) remote to join our dynamic team at a remote-first SaaS company. This role is ideal for someone with strong Elixir experience who is eager to help scale and evolve our core platform. As a Senior Backend Software Engineer, you will play a crucial role in building transaction-driven, real-time software that enhances our service offerings.

What You'll Do

  • Build and maintain backend services using Elixir and Phoenix.
  • Design and support scalable, fault-tolerant systems.
  • Develop and maintain APIs, with a preference for GraphQL.
  • Improve performance, reliability, and observability of our systems.
  • Contribute to architectural decisions and system evolution.
  • Troubleshoot complex production issues effectively.
  • Write clean, testable, maintainable code that adheres to best practices.
  • Participate in code reviews to ensure high-quality engineering standards.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience, with a focus on backend development.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Elixir and Phoenix is required.
  • Knowledge of functional programming and Erlang/OTP.
  • Experience supporting production SaaS systems.
  • Cloud experience, specifically with AWS, is required.
  • Strong database fundamentals, particularly with PostgreSQL.
  • Proficient with Git.
  • Comfortable working in a remote, distributed team environment.
  • Working knowledge of AI-assisted development tools, used responsibly.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Ruby, Python, or JavaScript.
  • Experience with high-concurrency or real-time systems.
  • Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, or cloud-native tooling.
