About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Android Software Engineer to join our Video Streaming team at Verkada. This remote position offers you the chance to work on cutting-edge video streaming technologies that protect organizations worldwide. You will play a pivotal role in enhancing the streaming experience on our Android app, ensuring low-latency video playback and high-quality performance.

What You'll Do

• Enhance the streaming experience on our Android app by delivering low-latency live video and ultra-fast load times across various devices.
• Collaborate with backend and streaming infrastructure teams to integrate APIs and deliver end-to-end video solutions.
• Implement and optimize video streaming protocols such as HLS, DASH, RTSP, and WebRTC for low-latency, high-quality playback.
• Utilize hardware-accelerated decoders like MediaCodec and ExoPlayer to ensure smooth performance across different media formats.
• Stay updated with the latest Android media APIs, streaming protocols, and device capabilities.
• Work cross-functionally with product and design teams to create a consistent playback experience across platforms.

Requirements

• BS/MS in Computer Science or a related field.
• 4+ years of professional experience in Android development using Kotlin/Java.
• Deep understanding of ExoPlayer, MediaCodec, and Android Media APIs.
• Familiarity with video streaming protocols (HLS, DASH, RTSP, WebRTC) and codecs like H.264, HEVC, HEIF, and AAC.
• Strong grasp of performance optimization on mobile devices, including memory, CPU, GPU, and battery management.
• Experience with networking protocols such as TCP, UDP, and QUIC.
