Research Scientist - Integrated Analytics (Remote)
About the Role
We are seeking a Research Scientist - Integrated Analytics to join the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) at the University of Washington. This remote Research Scientist position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to global health research and advance your career in a collaborative environment. You will play a crucial role in analyzing and producing key estimates for various research projects, which aim to improve health policy and practice worldwide.
What You'll Do
- Exhibit command of the Global Burden of Diseases (GBD) and forecasting research areas, including methodology and its components.
- Independently carry out quantitative analyses and participate in reciprocal research projects.
- Interpret and vet results from junior staff, formulate conclusions, and inform team leaders.
- Develop, quality check, and distribute complex datasets for epidemiological and statistical analyses.
- Write, test, and maintain code in Python, R, SQL, or equivalent, adapting to additional programming languages as needed.
- Assist in drafting presentations and manuscripts, contributing to the preparation of funding proposals.
- Lead and co-author scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals.
- Maintain scientific awareness and intellectual agility with data, methods, and analytic techniques.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in public health, epidemiology, statistics, biostatistics, math, economics, quantitative social sciences, or related discipline plus four years of related experience.
- Excellent analytic, critical thinking, and quantitative skills.
- Experience with statistical modeling techniques and troubleshooting code in R or Python.
- Strong written and oral communication skills, with a track record of success in co-authorship on scientific papers.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
Nice to Have
- MD or PhD in relevant fields plus two years of experience preferred.
- Experience with machine learning, data mining, and analytic techniques.
- Experience mentoring junior employees.
