About the Role

We are seeking a Principal Scientist in Bioinformatics to join our innovative team at Genentech. This remote Principal Scientist position focuses on statistical genetics and AI/ML, contributing to groundbreaking research in neuroscience and precision medicine. What You'll Do

• Lead comprehensive human genetics analyses across various cohorts, ensuring rigorous quality control and employing advanced methodologies such as GWAS and fine-mapping.
• Integrate genetics with functional genomics, utilizing single-cell and multiome datasets to identify causal genes and mechanisms.
• Advance AI/ML applications in genomics, establishing reliability gating and ensuring model outputs are ready for decision-making.
• Translate model outputs into actionable insights that enhance discovery power and interpretability in genetics research.
• Build scalable software and workflows to make advanced genetics and AI methods accessible, emphasizing reproducibility and documentation.
• Provide scientific leadership and mentorship, collaborating with cross-functional teams to drive impactful research and development decisions.
• Maintain scientific excellence through publications and presentations at conferences, contributing to external collaborations.
• Focus on developing capabilities that link genetic variants to molecular functions and disease-relevant phenotypes.

Requirements

• PhD in Statistical Genetics, Bioinformatics, or a related field, with postdoctoral experience.
• Proven track record of high-quality peer-reviewed publications and evidence of intellectual leadership.
• Deep expertise in statistical genetics and strong programming skills in Python and/or R.
• Experience with large-scale genomics datasets and modern computational environments.
• Ability to lead complex scientific projects and deliver robust solutions.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence across disciplines.

Nice to Have

• Experience in developing analytics pipelines or platforms.
• Strong background in integrating genetics with single-cell/multiome data.
• Applied experience with machine learning in genomics, including model reliability assessment.
• Interest in neuroscience or neuroimmunology.
