Postdoctoral Researcher in Applied Mathematics and Machine Learning - Remote
About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated Postdoctoral Researcher in Applied Mathematics and Machine Learning to join our team at Los Alamos National Laboratory. This remote position offers an exciting opportunity to work at the intersection of applied mathematics, data-driven modeling of dynamical systems, and machine learning. As a postdoctoral researcher, you will be part of a multidisciplinary team of mathematicians, physicists, and machine learning experts, advancing AI-enabled modeling of complex dynamical systems.
What You'll Do
- Develop novel learning architectures that respect physical constraints and help discover underlying structures from data.
- Engage in method development, theoretical analysis, and empirical validation on benchmark and mission-relevant datasets.
- Collaborate with a diverse team to explore applications in various domains, including wildfire, ocean, and space weather.
- Organize scientific workshops and participate in conferences to disseminate research findings.
- Contribute to the advancement of machine learning techniques in the context of dynamical systems.
Requirements
- PhD in Applied Mathematics, Computational or Statistical Physics, Applied Statistics, Computer Science, or a related field completed within the last 5 years.
- Experience in data-driven and/or machine learning methods for dynamical systems, demonstrated through a strong record of peer-reviewed publications.
- Fundamental understanding of the Koopman and/or Perron-Frobenius Operators.
- Excellent programming skills in Python, with hands-on experience using ML libraries such as PyTorch or JAX.
- Strong mathematical training in relevant fields such as functional analysis, probability, numerical analysis, or optimization.
Nice to Have
- Prior research experience with neural operators and probabilistic modeling.
- Experience developing novel neural network architectures and working with large numerical simulations.
- Familiarity with high-performance computing environments.
