Manager, Machine Learning & AI - Remote Leadership Role

About the Role

Zapier is seeking a Manager, Machine Learning & AI to lead our AI Platform team in a fully remote capacity. In this role, you will be at the forefront of how we leverage AI to enhance automation for our customers. As a Manager, Machine Learning & AI remote, you will oversee a talented team of ML/AI engineers, ensuring that we deliver innovative and reliable AI solutions.

What You'll Do

• Lead the AI Platform team, focusing on hiring, coaching, and developing ML/AI engineers.
• Deliver platform outcomes that empower product teams to ship AI features faster and more safely.
• Own the AI Platform roadmap, translating cross-team needs into a prioritized plan.
• Collaborate with product teams and applied AI/ML teams to ensure seamless integration of platform capabilities.
• Drive operational excellence by defining SLOs, running incident reviews, and enhancing monitoring systems.
• Participate in AI vendor evaluation and management to optimize performance and cost.
• Communicate effectively with stakeholders, sharing updates and aligning on platform adoption progress.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in Machine Learning/AI with a proven track record of shipping production systems.
• Experience in leading engineering teams, with a focus on coaching and development.
• Ability to translate ambiguous goals into a clear, prioritized roadmap.
• Strong software engineering fundamentals, including CI/CD and operational readiness.
• Understanding of ML/LLM system design to guide decisions on serving patterns and cost controls.
• Effective stakeholder management skills, building trust across multiple teams.
• Strong product judgment, with the ability to prioritize effectively and communicate trade-offs.
• Excellent communication skills, able to convey complex ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Nice to Have

• Experience with AI vendor management and evaluation.
• Familiarity with agile methodologies.
• Knowledge of DevOps practices in AI/ML environments.
