Founding DevOps Engineer - Remote Opportunity

About the Role

We are seeking a talented Founding DevOps Engineer to join CommandLink in a fully remote capacity. As a Founding DevOps Engineer remote, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the reliability of our high-throughput distributed platform that processes network telemetry, voice, and security data for a global customer base. Your mission is to maintain a fast, available, and scalable platform as CommandLink expands, enabling rapid deployments without compromising uptime.

What You'll Do

• Own platform reliability end-to-end: define and enforce SLOs/SLIs, build alerting strategies, lead incident response, and drive blameless postmortems.
• Manage Kubernetes cluster operations: oversee HA multi-node and cloud clusters in production, handle rolling upgrades, resource quotas, autoscaling, network policies, and pod disruption budgets.
• Operate and scale distributed data infrastructure: manage Kafka clusters, Flink streaming jobs, and OpenSearch clusters under sustained high-throughput workloads.
• Maintain and scale Temporal server deployments; collaborate with engineering to design durable workflows.
• Manage and optimize Azure/AWS/GCP environments, contributing to the Infrastructure as Code (IaC) codebase using Terraform or Bicep.
• Enhance CI/CD and deployment pipelines to enable safe, fast, and automated delivery across environments.
• Build and maintain a comprehensive observability stack, including metrics, logs, traces, and dashboards.
• Collaborate with the security team to harden infrastructure and enforce compliance requirements.

Requirements

• 6+ years in a Site Reliability Engineering, DevOps, or Platform Engineering role in a production environment.
• Deep, hands-on Kubernetes experience, including cluster administration and HA configurations.
• Proven experience operating Apache Kafka at scale.
• Experience with Apache Flink or equivalent stream processing frameworks.
• Expertise in Azure/AWS/GCP cloud platforms.
• Solid understanding of distributed systems theory.
• Infrastructure as Code mindset — Terraform, Helm, or equivalent.
• Strong scripting and automation skills (Bash, PHP, Python, or Go).

Nice To Have

• Experience with Vector (from Datadog) for log and metric collection.
• Familiarity with chaos engineering practices.
• Contributions to open-source infrastructure tooling.
