About the Role

Canonical is seeking an Engineering Director – Business Data to lead our innovative teams in a fully remote capacity. As an Engineering Director, you will oversee the development and operations of internal business systems integrations, including a comprehensive data mesh solution built on leading open-source software. This role is pivotal in enhancing our data governance and engineering practices, ensuring that our systems are compliant and efficient.

What You'll Do

• Lead multiple engineering teams, fostering a culture of excellence and collaboration.
• Develop your engineering managers to uphold Canonical's values and culture within their teams.
• Implement and evangelize best engineering practices and processes across teams.
• Set performance goals and objectives, ensuring accountability and continuous improvement.
• Measure team health indicators and take proactive actions to enhance team dynamics.
• Oversee product development roadmaps, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
• Collaborate with the Commercial Systems leadership team to drive strategic initiatives.
• Expand your teams by attracting and hiring top talent in the industry.

Requirements

• Proven experience in leading engineering teams, particularly in business systems integrations.
• Strong background in configuring and developing systems like Salesforce and NetSuite.
• Experience with data engineering and governance solutions.
• Expertise in Python and familiarity with open-source tools such as Trino, Ranger, and Superset.
• Ability to design and operate workflows using open-source orchestration engines like Temporal.
• Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
• Experience in managing remote teams and fostering a positive work culture.

Nice to Have

• Experience in AI and DevOps environments.
• Familiarity with ETL solutions like Airbyte.
• Knowledge of SQL and data analytics.
