About the Role
We are excited to announce a Remote Distributed Systems Engineer position that offers a unique opportunity to work with a leading frontier AI research laboratory. This role is perfect for experienced software engineers with a strong background in distributed systems, backend infrastructure, and cloud environments. As a Remote Distributed Systems Engineer, you will play a crucial role in building scalable systems that power the next generation of intelligent, autonomous agents.
What You'll Do
- Design, build, and optimize distributed infrastructure for training, deploying, and scaling AI agents across high-performance compute environments.
- Evaluate and improve system performance across compute, networking, storage, and inference layers, identifying and resolving bottlenecks.
- Implement monitoring, observability, and fault-tolerance mechanisms for long-running agent processes and distributed workflows.
- Develop core backend systems including services, APIs, and orchestration layers that support agent lifecycles and multi-agent coordination.
- Collaborate closely with research and applied AI teams to integrate model-serving pipelines and agent reasoning loops into production systems.
Requirements
- A strong foundation in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or Systems Design with experience building large-scale distributed systems.
- Proficiency in backend or systems programming languages such as Go, Rust, Python, C++, Java, Scala, C#, Kotlin, or TypeScript.
- Experience with cloud infrastructure such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
- Strong experience designing production-grade backend services and distributed systems.
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills.
Nice to Have
- Familiarity with LLM inference pipelines or reinforcement learning environments.
- Knowledge of networking, data streaming, caching, and performance optimization in distributed systems.
- Ability to operate effectively in fast-moving, technically demanding environments.
What We Offer
- Flexible scheduling with an expected commitment of 30–40 hours per week.
- Hourly compensation of $100–$160, with weekly payments via Stripe or Wise.
- Fully remote work environment, allowing you to collaborate with leading systems engineers and AI researchers.
- Opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge AI projects that have real-world impact.
- Immediate start date available.
This role offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of distributed systems engineering and AI, with competitive pay and flexible hours.
