Data Science Engineering Manager - Medicaid Programs (Remote)

We are seeking a Data Science Engineering Manager for Medicaid Programs to join our team at For People. You will lead a guild of data scientists, transforming fragmented healthcare data into actionable insights for our government partners.

What You'll Do

• Lead, mentor, and grow a team of 5-10 data scientists, setting clear expectations and fostering a collaborative culture.
• Act as the daily technical lead for a Medicaid data science program, managing timelines and ensuring project milestones are met.
• Guide the technical direction of data science workstreams, delivering scalable and high-quality code.
• Design, write, and review SQL queries, Python scripts, and PySpark data transformations for government Medicaid datasets.
• Coordinate with Data Engineering teams to build and deploy automated ETL data pipelines within an AWS-hosted Databricks lakehouse environment.
• Serve as the primary technical point of contact for business analysts and government stakeholders.
• Develop and present reporting mechanisms that provide actionable insights to clients and internal leadership.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience as a data scientist or data engineering professional, with at least 2 years in a management capacity.
• Direct experience with health insurance data, such as Medicaid/Medicare claims.
• Expert-level proficiency in SQL, strong Python and PySpark programming skills.
• Hands-on experience with Databricks and modern cloud platforms.
• Familiarity with software engineering practices, including Git version control and CI/CD pipelines.
• Excellent communication skills to translate complex concepts for non-technical stakeholders.

Nice to Have

• Experience with BI tools like PowerBI, AWS QuickSight, or Tableau.
• Understanding of data warehousing principles and ETL design.
