About the Role

Join CERN as a Computing Engineer specializing in Linux System Administration, where you will play a critical role in supporting the accelerator control system infrastructure. This position offers the opportunity to work remotely while contributing to groundbreaking scientific research.

What You'll Do

• Perform system administration tasks for Linux computers connected to the accelerator control system, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.
• Communicate with end-users to understand their needs and translate them into effective solutions.
• Investigate, diagnose, and resolve operational problems in collaboration with diverse teams, enhancing the functionality of critical systems.
• Participate actively in the strategic evolution of the accelerator control system infrastructure, focusing on container technology hosted on Kubernetes.
• Utilize configuration management tools such as Ansible and Puppet to maintain system integrity and security.

Requirements

• Master's degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science or a related field.
• Advanced knowledge of Linux operating systems, particularly RedHat Enterprise Linux and Debian.
• Experience with high-performance server platforms and diagnostic solutions for critical Linux systems.
• Familiarity with configuration management tools and version control systems like Git.
• Knowledge of Kubernetes and container technologies such as Docker and Podman is advantageous.

Nice to Have

• Experience in software failure analysis and diagnostics in a Linux environment.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Python and Java.
• Understanding of communication technologies and protocols.
