AI Engineer - Construction Site Optimization

About the Role

We are seeking an AI Engineer - Construction Site Optimization to join our team at 1872 Consulting. This role will primarily focus on the Yale University construction site in New Haven, CT, where you will work fully onsite for the initial year. After this assignment, you will have the opportunity to relocate to one of our corporate offices for a hybrid work model. As an AI Engineer, you will play a crucial role in transforming AI concepts into practical applications that enhance construction site operations.

What You'll Do

• Lead workflow discovery and redesign initiatives, utilizing Lean/Six Sigma methodologies to identify high-impact AI opportunities that improve field efficiency.
• Develop and deploy multiple production-ready AI agents using tools such as Copilot Studio, Power Apps/Automate, and ChatGPT Enterprise.
• Integrate AI agents into Teams/SharePoint and connect them to enterprise data sources like Databricks Lakehouse.
• Design and operate retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) pipelines, ensuring optimal performance and monitoring key metrics.
• Blend OpenAI, Azure OpenAI, and AWS Bedrock services through secure custom connectors to maximize flexibility.
• Collaborate with Data Engineering to deliver ETL/ELT pipelines and API integrations that support AI agent functionality.
• Train field teams on AI solutions, gather feedback, and iterate quickly to embed AI agents into standard operating procedures.
• Communicate technical results to stakeholders, translating them into business value for leadership and clients.

Requirements

• 4+ years of experience in AI engineering, data science, or ML-focused software engineering.
• Proven track record of building multiple AI agents in production environments.
• 2+ years of hands-on experience with LLMs, RAG pipelines, and LLMOps practices.
• Strong software engineering background in Python is essential.
• Ability to work collaboratively with project managers and stakeholders to drive AI initiatives.

Nice to Have

• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
• Familiarity with data governance and security standards in AI implementations.
• Knowledge of construction industry workflows and challenges.
