VP, Systems Engineer - Remote Role at Galaxy
About the Role
We are looking for a hands-on VP, Systems Engineer to join our team at Galaxy. This remote VP, Systems Engineer position is pivotal in owning and evolving our mission-critical infrastructure. You will play a crucial role in designing, building, and maintaining a hybrid infrastructure that supports high-reliability financial systems.
What You'll Do
- Hybrid Infrastructure Ownership - personally design, build, deploy, operate, and maintain a hybrid infrastructure spanning cloud services and on-premises data centers.
- Data Center Operations - perform hands-on work in live production data centers, including rack-and-stack, hardware installation and replacement, and in-person troubleshooting.
- Automation and Configuration - implement automation, configuration management, and infrastructure-as-code to manage systems at scale.
- Monitoring and Observability - establish and maintain end-to-end monitoring for systems you operate in production.
- Incident Response and Reliability - take ownership of production reliability, participate in on-call rotations, and lead live incident response.
- Security and Compliance - ensure systems are hardened and operated in line with security requirements.
- Cross-Functional Execution - work with engineering and product teams to support deployments and system evolution.
- Continuous Improvement - identify weaknesses and drive initiatives for improvement across infrastructure.
Requirements
- 7+ years of hands-on experience as a systems engineer or equivalent role.
- Deep, practical Linux systems experience in production environments.
- Experience operating both cloud and on-premises infrastructure.
- Hands-on experience in physical data centers, including installing and troubleshooting servers.
- Strong automation and scripting skills (Bash, Python, or similar).
- Experience designing and operating monitoring for production systems.
- Familiarity with core networking concepts such as TCP/IP and DNS.
- Proven production ownership and ability to operate independently.
Nice to Have
- Experience in fintech, crypto, or high-reliability financial systems.
- Exposure to blockchain or digital asset infrastructure.
- Experience with containerized workloads and orchestration platforms.
- Background in high-performance, low-latency systems.
- Familiarity with security operations and compliance frameworks.
