Systems Reliability Engineer - Remote Opportunity

About the Role

We're hiring a Systems Reliability Engineer to join our team at Bayer. This remote Systems Reliability Engineer position is pivotal in ensuring the highest level of availability, performance, and quality of laboratory equipment. You will assess equipment specifications in the context of their usage and implement maintenance strategies to achieve optimum effectiveness.

What You'll Do

  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair laboratory equipment and integrated automation systems to restore performance and minimize downtime.
  • Utilize a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to document and track work orders, record labor hours and parts, and maintain accurate asset records.
  • Perform scheduled preventive and predictive maintenance in line with performance targets, regularly reviewing and modifying maintenance procedures based on best practices.
  • Develop, document, and perform internal quality repair testing procedures, validating equipment performance according to industry standards.
  • Act as a liaison between equipment vendors and end-users, translating technical specifications to facilitate effective issue resolution.
  • Provide maintenance training to end-users to enable autonomous maintenance and basic machine operation.
  • Utilize structured root cause analysis to identify and implement initiatives that improve equipment reliability.
  • Coordinate and contribute to continuous improvement efforts with multidisciplinary teams to enhance production and laboratory processes.

Requirements

  • BS degree with 4+ years of relevant experience, or an associate degree with 6+ years of experience, or 12+ years of relevant experience in Biology, Engineering, Mechanical Systems, Electronics, or Robotics.
  • Experience in the installation, configuration, maintenance, and repair of integrated laboratory automation systems.
  • Advanced troubleshooting skills, including structured Root Cause Analysis methods.
  • Experience with laboratory robotics and automated liquid handling platforms.
  • Basic proficiency with CAD to review mechanical designs or create modifications.
  • Knowledge of CMMS systems, including work orders and preventive maintenance.
  • Experience working collaboratively with laboratory engineering and maintenance teams.
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently in a fast-paced environment.

Nice to Have

  • Working knowledge of electrical and controls systems.
  • Experience with fluorescence/absorbance microplate readers.
  • Basic scripting experience (JavaScript, Python, C#, or PowerShell).
  • Familiarity with TPM, LEAN, and continuous improvement methodologies.
