About the Role
We are seeking a Staff Engineer - Technical Mitigations Research to join our team at Lila Sciences. This role is pivotal in building a high-agency AI safety team that will collaborate with all core teams within our organization. As a Staff Engineer, you will focus on creating a bespoke safety strategy tailored to our specific goals and deployment strategies. What You'll Be Building
- Develop and implement safety systems that ensure the secure deployment of our scientific capabilities.
- Set the build and research strategy for Lila’s safety systems, including safety post-training and automated safety-testing systems.
- Conduct initial safeguards experimentation tailored to Lila’s scientific needs.
- Lead a small team to execute on the build and research agenda.
- Collaborate with domain-specific experts and contribute to high-quality research efforts.
Requirements
- 4-6+ years of experience in technical engineering with ML systems.
- Proven track record of building safety systems and classifiers for frontier-class problems.
- Experience in developing scalable, production systems, not just prototypes.
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-expert audiences effectively.
- Experience in applying ML to biological or physical sciences is a plus.
