Software Engineer (Autonomous Metal 3D Printing) - New Grad Summer 2026
About the Role
We are seeking a Software Engineer (Autonomous Metal 3D Printing) remote to join Freeform as part of our New Grad Summer 2026 program. In this role, you will contribute to our mission of deploying software-defined, autonomous metal 3D printing factories worldwide. Your work will help bring the scalability of software to physical production, making 3D printing accessible to all industries.
What You'll Do
- Architect and develop software for advanced, production-scale metal 3D printing factories.
- Collaborate with process, control, and mechanical engineers to integrate control algorithms into production software.
- Enhance and scale high-rate data acquisition, storage, and retrieval systems.
- Implement processes to convert customer part geometries into machine print instructions.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or computer engineering from an ABET accredited university.
- Experience through internships or engineering clubs such as FSAE, Baja SAE, or similar programming with C/C++.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a collaborative mindset.
- Ability to thrive in fast-paced, ambiguous environments.
Nice to Have
- Advanced degree (Master's, PhD) in computer science or computer engineering.
- Experience with microcontrollers, FPGA, or GPU computing hardware.
- Experience developing embedded or real-time software systems.
- Familiarity with Linux or RTOS environments.
