Senior Systems Engineer - W76 UK Trident Program

About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Systems Engineer to join the W76 UK Trident Program Team at Sandia National Laboratories. This Senior Systems Engineer remote position offers an excellent opportunity for an individual with a scientific or engineering background to make significant contributions to national security and technology innovation.

What You'll Do

• Plan, conceive, conduct, or manage research and development for Sandia’s customers and sponsors related to the UK Trident Program.
• Collaborate closely with the W76 UK Trident Program team and the W76 Stockpile manager to define and execute daily activities and priorities.
• Present technical and programmatic updates to SNL leadership and external partners.
• Provide leadership to help resolve technical trades and ensure continual progress of the program.
• Coordinate with project management personnel to develop schedules, budgets, and project plans.
• Partner with peer stakeholder leaders to negotiate requirements, deliverables, and risks.
• Lead research and development conceptual system trade studies.
• Mentor system and other Sandia staff members in both formal and informal settings.

Requirements

• A bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline and five (5) years of directly relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Active DOE Q-level security clearance or equivalent.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Experience working in a leadership role managing technical and programmatic responsibilities.
• Ability to integrate and work effectively across multiple technical teams.

Nice to Have

• Graduate degree in Engineering or a related field.
• Experience with Nuclear Security Enterprise (NSE) laboratories and plants.
• Knowledge of Nuclear Weapon Systems and the ability to communicate complex technical concepts.

This Senior Systems Engineer remote role requires the selected applicant to work onsite and travel frequently (up to 50% of the time) to the United Kingdom. You will become intimately familiar with the detailed function of W76 Mk4 & Mk4A nuclear weapon components and gain a breadth of knowledge across all phases of the product realization lifecycle.
