Senior Systems Engineer - Remote Opportunity at Los Alamos National Laboratory
About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to join our dynamic team at Los Alamos National Laboratory. This Senior Systems Engineer remote position offers an exciting opportunity to work on critical projects in the Nuclear Production Operations sector. You will be part of a multidisciplinary group of engineers and scientists supporting plutonium programs, including pit production, surveillance, research & development, and subcritical experiments.
What You'll Do
- Conduct detailed modeling and optimization of critical production processes, including metal refining, melting, casting, heat treatment, forming, machining, and welding.
- Provide comprehensive analytical support for the design and development of production tooling, fixtures, and specialized process equipment.
- Tackle complex problems, from simple hand calculations to sophisticated system-of-systems analyses.
- Complete and document all work within cost and schedule constraints.
- Present findings for peer review and provide constructive feedback on other engineers' work.
- Deliver detailed analyses covering a wide range of challenging problems, ensuring solutions are imaginative, thorough, and aligned with organizational objectives.
Requirements
- A minimum of a bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited institution and 4 years of related experience.
- Proficiency in applying fundamental techniques and engineering best practices.
- Demonstrated experience in complex modeling and simulation using SysML, SymPy, or similar tools.
- Ability to conduct, validate, and interpret results of failure mode and effects analyses, fault tree analyses, etc.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with strong presentation capabilities.
- Ability to obtain a Q clearance, which requires US citizenship.
Nice to Have
- A Master's or PhD Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited institution.
- Familiarity with Model-Based Systems Engineering and SysML language.
- Proficient understanding of systems engineering fundamentals.
- Experience applying operations research techniques to refine complex operations.
- Proficiency in Python and MATLAB.
