Senior Systems Engineer - European Sovereign Cloud (Remote)

About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Systems Engineer - European Sovereign Cloud (Remote) to join our dynamic team at Amazon Web Services (AWS). This role is pivotal as we introduce the inaugural European Sovereign Cloud (ESC), a significant development in utility computing (UC). As a Senior Systems Engineer, you will lead operations and development teams dedicated to delivering high-availability AWS services exclusively for EU customers. Your expertise will be crucial in overseeing the launch of the ESC in 2025, collaborating with global AWS teams, and influencing the evolution of AWS services and technology.

What You'll Do

• Oversee the launch of the European Sovereign Cloud (ESC) and ensure its operational excellence.
• Collaborate with technology leaders to enhance the availability, reliability, and performance of AWS services such as EC2, S3, and Lambda.
• Participate in on-call rotations to resolve incidents and maintain high availability for our customers.
• Review operational health, identify anomalies, and create actionable bug reports to enhance system efficiency.
• Engage in the development and testing of scripts to improve workflows and operational processes.

Requirements

• Fluency in written and spoken English is required.
• Must be a national of an EU member state and residing in the EU.
• Demonstrated expertise in systems engineering with experience in hardware, software, networking, and operating systems.
• Experience scripting in languages such as Bash, Python, or Ruby.
• Solid understanding of Linux and networking, with the ability to troubleshoot performance and reliability issues.

Nice to Have

• Experience with monitoring frameworks like CloudWatch, Datadog, or Grafana.
• Experience mentoring junior engineers and leading cross-organizational efforts.
• Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code tools such as CDK, CloudFormation, Puppet, Chef, or Ansible.
