Senior Python Engineer - FastAPI Focus for AI Solutions

About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Python Engineer to join our dynamic team at Photoroom. This Senior Python Engineer remote position offers you the opportunity to take ownership of our public API, which is crucial for developers integrating Photoroom into their products. You will work at the intersection of developer experience and applied AI, shaping the interface used by both self-serve users and large enterprise customers.

What You'll Do

• Design, build, and evolve our public API product, ensuring it is reliable, scalable, and easy to integrate.
• Ship features that cater to both self-serve developers and large enterprise clients, iterating quickly based on real usage.
• Own the API surface end-to-end, from design decisions to implementation and long-term maintainability.
• Collaborate closely with product, machine learning, backend, and sales teams to deliver real value to users.
• Utilize data and user feedback to prioritize features that matter most.

Requirements

• Strong experience in building backend systems in Python, particularly with APIs used by external consumers.
• Comfortable with FastAPI or similar frameworks, and familiar with async patterns and concurrency.
• Experience in designing public-facing APIs, focusing on versioning, consistency, and long-term evolution.
• Deep commitment to reliability, performance, and developer experience.
• Ability to communicate technical decisions clearly to non-technical stakeholders.

Nice to Have

• Experience with Docker and API deployment patterns.
• Familiarity with image processing libraries like Pillow or pyvips.
• Experience integrating AI/image models behind APIs.
• Knowledge of Node.js as the current API is being migrated.
