Senior Propulsion System Engineer - Remote Opportunity

About the Role

Join us at The Exploration Company as a Senior Propulsion System Engineer in a remote capacity. We are developing Nyx, a modular and reusable space orbital vehicle, and we need your expertise to lead the design and operation of our propulsion systems. This role is pivotal in ensuring the success of our mission to democratize space.

What You'll Do

• Provide senior technical leadership for the design justification, layout optimization, and testing of the MON/MMH propulsion system.
• Interface with structures, thermal, avionics, GNC, safety, and operations teams to ensure consistent cross-domain requirements.
• Support the validation of propulsion system architecture, functional chain, and control strategy.
• Lead the definition of functional tests, leak tests, dry-run operations, and hazardous/propellant-related operations.
• Participate in operators training and mission rehearsal campaigns.

Requirements

• Master’s degree or PhD in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
• 8+ years of experience in spacecraft chemical propulsion system design, testing, or operations.
• Strong systems engineering mindset and ability to lead multidisciplinary discussions.
• Proven background with MON, MMH, NTO, or hydrazine-based systems.
• Experience in spacecraft AIT, including work with hazardous propellants.

Nice to Have

• Hands-on experience with FMEA/FMECA, fault management, and/or FDIR architectures.
• Experience with mission operations, simulation tools, and operational concept development.
