Senior Mechanical Design Engineer - SDV Electronics (Remote)

About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer - SDV Electronics to join our innovative team at General Motors. This role offers the opportunity to work remotely while leading the design of next-generation electronics for our Software Defined Vehicles (SDV). As a key member of our Central Compute Hardware Mechanical Design team, you will play a crucial role in shaping the future of automotive technology.

What You'll Do

• Execute mechanical design of electronics packaging, leading to successful product launches.
• Design mechanical components including castings, injection moldings, and vehicle interfaces.
• Perform design calculations, GD&T, and tolerance stacks.
• Create 3D-CAD models and lead CAD reviews with stakeholders.
• Develop analysis and test plans for new designs, including FEA and modal analysis.
• Lead prototyping and testing efforts, analyzing test data to refine designs.
• Collaborate with electrical engineers to integrate components into electro-mechanical systems.
• Communicate design progress and risks to stakeholders and cross-functional partners.

Requirements

• BS in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
• 10+ years of engineering experience in designing electronics housings and enclosures.
• Experience with EMI/shielding, sealing, and thermal management.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling (NX and Teamcenter) and tolerance analysis.
• Strong analytical skills in solid mechanics and material science.

Nice to Have

• Master’s degree or PhD in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
• Experience with automotive electronics and PCBAs.
• Knowledge of ASME Y14.5-2009 standards.
