About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Linux Systems Administrator to join our team at Savannah River National Laboratory (SRNL). This remote position involves engineering, implementing, and sustaining enterprise Linux platforms that support our research and mission operations. You will ensure the secure, reliable, and auditable operation of Linux systems throughout their lifecycle, including standard builds, patching, vulnerability remediation, configuration management, and monitoring.
What You'll Do
- Engineer, deploy, patch, and troubleshoot production Linux systems (virtual and/or physical) to maintain availability and security.
- Operate an OS patch and vulnerability remediation program with measurable outcomes, utilizing automation tools like Red Hat Satellite.
- Build and maintain automation for configuration, patching, and operational tasks using Ansible, treating automation as a product.
- Implement security hardening and compliance validation aligned with applicable baselines, including routine OpenSCAP-based scanning.
- Configure and tune monitoring and alerting systems, perform root-cause analysis, and support incident response.
- Integrate Linux hosts and services with enterprise identity and authentication systems, applying least privilege and access governance.
- Support development teams by provisioning and maintaining Dev/Staging/Prod environments, enabling safer deployments.
- Lead modernization initiatives for COTS and homegrown applications, adopting containers and Kubernetes where applicable.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree and 5+ years of Linux systems administration experience in production environments.
- Demonstrated ability to patch, troubleshoot, and remediate vulnerabilities in enterprise environments.
- Professional experience automating administrative tasks with Ansible and scripting (Bash and/or Python).
- Experience administering Linux in virtualized infrastructure (e.g., VMware).
- Hands-on experience supporting application environments across multiple lifecycle tiers.
- Working knowledge of security and compliance practices aligned to NIST controls.
Nice to Have
- Red Hat Satellite administration experience for lifecycle content and patch management.
- Experience deploying and maintaining Ubuntu Server environments for high-availability services.
- Experience with Automation Controller for operationalizing automation.
