Senior Java Developer - Remote Opportunity with Relocation Support

About the Role

Hippo is recruiting Senior Java Developers to join our Hippo Herd. As a Senior Java Developer, you will work in multi-disciplinary teams that build, support, and maintain user-centered digital solutions that offer real value and work for everyone. This Senior Java Developer role offers the chance to craft high-quality, accessible, and performant digital services while being embedded within multi-disciplinary project teams.

What You'll Do

• Act as a technical Subject Matter Expert (SME) within the squad to produce user-centered software based on business requirements and best practices.
• Collaborate with colleagues to explore, design, and deliver solutions to client problems.
• Design and manage software development and deployment pipelines, resolving issues and potential bottlenecks before they occur.
• Communicate effectively with stakeholders, presenting prototypes, solutions, and progress in a clear and concise manner.
• Build strong relationships with your team and stakeholders, ensuring that challenges are overcome.
• Participate in the recruitment of other engineers and support the professional development of other consultants.
• Promote Hippo’s Engineering Herd externally through writing blogs, workshops, seminars, or conferences.

Requirements

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, able to articulate in both technical and non-technical terms depending on the audience.
• Experience in the full development lifecycle delivering user-centered digital solutions.
• Proficiency in core Java, with experience in frameworks such as Spring Boot and technologies like CXF.
• Familiarity with JavaScript libraries and frameworks such as Node, React, or Angular.
• Containerization experience with Docker or Kubernetes.
• Experience in microservices design and architecture.
• Strong understanding of RESTful API services.
• Experience working within agile methodologies such as Scrum and Kanban.

Nice to Have

• Experience with Kotlin.
• Previous experience working on GOV/NHS projects.
