Senior Java Developer - Application Modernization (Remote)

About the Role

We’re hiring a Senior Java Developer - Application Modernization to join our dynamic team. This remote position offers the chance to work on a major application modernization initiative for a public-sector client, transforming legacy systems into modern cloud-based applications.

What You'll Do

• Design and define system architecture in collaboration with the OFCC Development Lead.
• Lead and mentor development teams, providing technical direction and best practices.
• Drive modernization efforts from legacy platforms to modern Java and cloud technologies.
• Work closely with stakeholders to translate business needs into technical solutions.
• Lead code reviews and ensure high code quality and architectural standards.
• Troubleshoot complex issues and optimize system performance and scalability.
• Create and maintain architecture and technical documentation.
• Utilize AI-enabled tools to support application development and testing.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience in IT and enterprise application development.
• Strong experience architecting and designing Java applications on AWS.
• Proven background in application modernization projects.
• Experience supporting large, mission-critical systems, ideally in the public sector.
• Ability to communicate clearly on project status, features, and backlog.
• Familiarity with React, MariaDB, and cloud-native design principles.
• Strong leadership, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.

Nice to Have

• Experience with Agile methodologies.
• Knowledge of DevOps practices and tools.
• Familiarity with microservices architecture.
