Senior Exhibition Designer - Hybrid Role at British Museum

About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Exhibition Designer to join the British Museum's award-winning Design & Interpretation Studio. This Senior Exhibition Designer remote position offers an exciting opportunity to shape major exhibitions and gallery redevelopments as part of the Museum's transformative Masterplan.

What You'll Do

• Lead the creative vision for immersive environments and narrative-driven visitor experiences.
• Collaborate closely with curators, interpretation specialists, and graphic designers to drive design excellence.
• Produce high-quality drawings, visualizations, and technical documentation using advanced 2D/3D tools.
• Manage contractors and external designers to ensure design intent and project standards are met.
• Champion sustainable design through responsible material choices and environmentally informed construction methods.
• Mentor junior designers and foster a collaborative studio culture.
• Explore opportunities for visa sponsorship for talented international professionals.

Requirements

• Proven experience as an exhibition designer or architect with a strong portfolio of realized projects.
• Deep understanding of spatial design, materiality, and construction.
• Ability to communicate clear conceptual responses to narrative briefs.
• Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and engaging stakeholders.
• Interest in audience engagement with space, objects, and stories.

Nice to Have

• Experience in architectural practice or scenography.
• Familiarity with sustainable design practices.
