About the Role
We're hiring a Senior Backend Software Engineer to join our profitable, fast-scaling AI platform. This Senior Backend Software Engineer remote position offers a unique opportunity to work on systems that have already processed over half a billion dollars in online orders, impacting 1 in 5 Americans who have used our customer-facing websites. Our mission is to empower local restaurants with the same AI-powered marketing engine that big chains utilize, providing automated SEO, online ordering, loyalty programs, and email/SMS campaigns, all managed by experts.
As a Senior Backend Software Engineer remote, you will be part of a small, intentional engineering team of about 60 engineers. You will own the guest lifecycle and loyalty platform, building high-volume, multi-channel marketing infrastructures that convert first-time guests into regular customers. If you have experience building systems that operate at scale and are looking to do meaningful work, this role is for you.
What You'll Do
- Own the email, SMS, and push notification infrastructure that powers high-volume, multi-channel campaigns for thousands of restaurant customers.
- Build and operate guest journey automation and loyalty systems integration end-to-end, focusing on deliverability, performance, and reliability at scale.
- Architect and maintain campaign orchestration pipelines using modern tooling including Temporal workflows and Kafka.
- Collaborate directly with customers and C-suite stakeholders, ensuring effective communication at all levels of the organization.
- Drive architectural decisions, contribute to roadmapping, and mentor team members.
- Thrive in ambiguity, defining your work as much as executing it.

You'll Thrive Here If You Have
- 5+ years of experience building and operating backend systems in production at scale, with a focus on operational complexity.
- Experience in hyper-growth, consumer-facing environments, handling real user volume across mobile or web.
- A background in high-growth startups or top-tier tech companies, with a trajectory of promotions and high ownership.
- Proficiency in TypeScript and Node.js, comfortable in a modern async/event-driven backend stack.
- Exceptional communication skills with engineers, product teams, and non-technical stakeholders.
- A passion for ambiguity and ownership, thriving in a fast-paced environment.
Nice-to-Haves
- Experience specifically in e-commerce, loyalty programs, or marketing automation systems.
- Familiarity with Temporal workflows, Kafka, or similar infrastructure for distributed job orchestration.
- A background at a company that has navigated the scaling inflection point (e.g., Series B to Series D).
- A CS degree from a top program.
