About the Role

We're seeking a Senior AI Security Engineer to join our mission-driven team at Wave. As a Senior AI Security Engineer remote, you'll play a pivotal role in ensuring the security of our financial services, which are designed to make Africa the first cashless continent. Your expertise will help us maintain the trust of millions of users across multiple countries.

What You'll Do

• Lead application security initiatives, collaborating with product teams to enhance our security posture.
• Design and implement security measures for AI-driven systems, focusing on prompt injection and data exfiltration prevention.
• Develop internal governance standards for AI usage, ensuring compliance with industry regulations.
• Secure our public-facing APIs and manage application-level login and permissions enforcement.
• Conduct security reviews and code refactors to improve overall system security.
• Mentor junior engineers on secure coding practices and security-focused development.
• Work on diverse security projects, from audits to infrastructure security enhancements.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and remediate security vulnerabilities.

Requirements

• Minimum of 5 years of professional experience, with at least 2 years in a security-related role.
• Strong experience with Python and familiarity with security frameworks.
• Fluent in English, with excellent communication skills.
• Experience with industry certifications such as ISO-27001 and PCI-DSS is a plus.
• Ability to balance security needs with development velocity.
• Experience in building governance frameworks for AI systems.
• Passion for mentoring and helping others understand secure patterns.
• Willingness to travel to operational markets at least once a year.

• Experience with LLM-based security tooling.
• Familiarity with security review processes and penetration testing.
