Senior AI Engineer - LLM & RAG Systems for Healthcare

About the Role

We are looking for a Senior AI Engineer to join our team at mama health. This Senior AI Engineer remote position requires you to be based in Berlin, where you will play a crucial role in building and owning the core AI systems that power our innovative healthcare products. As a Senior AI Engineer, you will design and ship production-grade AI systems, focusing on scalable LLM-based systems and multi-agent architectures that operate effectively in real-world environments.

What You'll Do

• Design and implement production-grade AI systems, ensuring reliability and scalability.
• Take ownership of AI features from ideation to production, focusing on quality and impact.
• Develop robust RAG pipelines using embeddings and vector databases to deliver high-quality outputs.
• Create intelligent patient-facing features that transform unstructured data into actionable insights.
• Drive the evaluation of AI systems, iterating on frameworks for LLM outputs and agent performance.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to address real healthcare challenges through effective AI solutions.
• Optimize AI systems for performance, cost-efficiency, and robustness in production environments.
• Engage in continuous learning and adaptation in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field.
• Strong experience in building LLM-based applications in production settings.
• Excellent Python programming skills.
• Hands-on experience with RAG systems, embeddings, and vector databases.
• Familiarity with prompt engineering and structured outputs.
• Experience with major LLM frameworks such as LangChain or LlamaIndex.
• Solid engineering fundamentals, including clean code practices, testing, CI/CD, and Docker.
• Experience with LLM evaluation or search quality is a strong plus.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms like AWS, GCP, or Azure.
