Scala Data Engineer - Remote Opportunity in Data & Analytics

About the Role

We are hiring a Scala Data Engineer to join a leading organization in the Information Services and Data Analytics industry. This remote position is perfect for engineers who thrive in distributed systems and large-scale data pipelines. As a Scala Data Engineer, you will design, develop, and maintain scalable services that process high volumes of data across cloud environments.

What You'll Do

• Design, develop, and maintain Scala-based data processing systems.
• Build and optimize end-to-end data pipelines.
• Work with distributed systems and cloud infrastructure (AWS / GCP).
• Integrate with services such as BigQuery, Dataflow, and PostgreSQL.
• Ensure high performance, scalability, and reliability of applications.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams on architecture and implementation.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues in cloud-based, distributed environments.

Requirements

• Strong hands-on experience with Scala (must-have).
• Experience with functional programming concepts.
• Experience with data pipeline development and data processing systems.
• Hands-on experience with Google BigQuery, Google Dataflow, PostgreSQL / SQL, and Kubernetes.
• Experience working with AWS and/or GCP.
• Experience with JSON processing (e.g., Circe).
• Experience with asynchronous/concurrent programming (FS2, cats-effect).
• Strong experience with Git and collaborative development workflows.
• Solid testing experience (unit, integration, component testing).

Nice to Have

• Experience with Finagle or similar RPC frameworks.
• Experience with data orchestration / workflow tools.
• Exposure to containerization and Kubernetes deployments.
