About the Role

We are seeking a Research Scientist - Health Research Projects (Remote) to join our team at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. This position focuses on health research projects involving HIPAA compliant data, where you will engage in groundbreaking research and development programs in healthcare informatics, bioinformatics, high performance computing, and deep learning. As a Research Scientist, you will collaborate with leading experts and contribute to innovative solutions in the health sector.

What You'll Do

• Participate in and lead research projects in biostatistics, AI, and deep learning with applications to health sciences.
• Develop translational solutions for population precision health and precision medicine.
• Integrate research in biostatistics, AI, and ML with high performance computing systems.
• Prepare manuscripts and disseminate research results at publications and conferences.
• Conduct independent tasks while effectively communicating with team members and stakeholders.

Requirements

• PhD and 2+ years of experience in a computational discipline such as Computer Science, Statistics, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field.
• Experience with multi-modal learning across modalities such as text, tabular, genetic, environmental, wearable, or image data.
• Strong publication record in medical and/or biomedical informatics related journals and conferences.
• Experience in developing and applying biostatistics, AI, and ML-based solutions to healthcare data.
• Experience with high performance computing (HPC) and deep learning frameworks like PyTorch.

• Experience leading diverse teams of biomedical researchers.
• Grant writing experience.
• Experience with large language models, natural language processing, and generative AI tools.
• Self-disciplined work ethic and eagerness to tackle challenging research problems.
