Senior Backend Engineer - Image Processing (Remote)

About the Role

We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer - Image Processing to join our innovative team at Referment. This remote position allows you to work from anywhere in the EU, with a preference for candidates based in the United Kingdom. As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will play a crucial role in transforming how visual content is processed at scale, impacting millions of users globally.

What You'll Do

• Design and build robust Python APIs that handle high-volume workloads efficiently.
• Scale and optimize backend systems across AWS infrastructure to ensure reliability and performance.
• Improve the performance and reliability of GPU-based image processing pipelines.
• Develop internal tools and integrations that support business-critical workflows.
• Enhance observability with logging, monitoring, and distributed tracing to ensure system efficiency.

Requirements

• 3+ years of backend development experience, primarily in Python.
• Strong experience with AWS and a solid understanding of scalable infrastructure.
• Experience working with Docker, CI/CD, and containerized deployments.
• A performance mindset, with experience measuring, analyzing, and improving system efficiency.
• Strong debugging skills across distributed systems.
• Comfortable using AI-assisted coding tools such as Cursor, Claude Code, or similar.

Nice to Have

• Experience with image processing, media pipelines, or GPU workloads.
• Exposure to billing or subscription systems.
• Familiarity with observability platforms such as Sentry.
