R&D Engineer for Active Implantable Systems - Remote Opportunity

About the Role

We are looking for an R&D Engineer for Active Implantable Systems to join our innovative team at Boston Scientific. This is a remote opportunity where you will harness your skills in a collaborative environment, tackling significant health industry challenges. As an R&D Engineer, you will design and develop implant products that monitor, support diagnosis, and treat irregular heart rhythms, heart failure, and sudden cardiac arrest. This role is crucial in advancing medical technology and improving patient care.

What You'll Do

  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to develop tools and software solutions that support implantable cardiac device development.
  • Contribute to embedded firmware design and implementation for Active Implantable Systems (AIS) technologies.
  • Develop and maintain software using C++, C#, and Python to support diagnostics, monitoring, and treatment workflows.
  • Support wireless communication features, including Bluetooth and socket programming, for real-time data exchange and device connectivity.
  • Engage in cybersecurity-focused development to ensure patient safety and data integrity across AIS platforms.
  • Contribute to projects that explore the use of artificial intelligence in medical device applications.
  • Take initiative in identifying and solving technical challenges related to device functionality, data flow, and system integration.
  • Participate in Agile development processes to ensure timely delivery of innovative solutions.

Requirements

  • Current rising junior or senior, graduating senior continuing on to grad school, or current grad student.
  • Must be working towards a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering.
  • Experience with Python, C, C++, and C# is required.
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies is preferred.
  • Must be able to start the internship on May 18th or 26th, 2026, and work for 12 weeks.
  • Reliable transportation to/from work is necessary.

Nice to Have

  • Medical industry experience.
  • Experience with embedded firmware projects involving wireless communication technologies.
  • Experience developing or supporting multithreaded applications or using socket programming.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity or artificial intelligence in a medical context.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse, cross-functional teams.
