Principal Software Engineer - Embedded Linux Remote
About the Role
Join Collins Aerospace as a Principal Software Engineer in the exciting field of embedded Linux development. This role offers the opportunity to work remotely while contributing to state-of-the-art communications and information assurance systems. As a Principal Software Engineer, you will play a critical role in developing innovative solutions that keep our military members safe and connected.
What You'll Do
- Design, develop, and enhance our customized Linux OS ecosystem, maintaining ownership over build toolchain, kernel, root filesystem, bootloader, device drivers, and board support package (BSP).
- Contribute to the design, coding, testing, delivery, and ongoing support for embedded Linux software systems.
- Participate in root cause analysis and resolution of complex hardware-software issues.
- Prepare software builds for execution in simulation environments and on target hardware.
- Provide technical leadership for project design teams, breaking down work, planning activities, and reporting status.
Requirements
- Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field with a minimum of 5 years of experience.
- Proficiency with embedded C/C++ and scripting languages (Bash and Python).
- Experience with embedded Linux device drivers and board bring-up.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued secret security clearance.
- Experience with debugging and root cause investigations using hardware schematics and tools such as logic analyzers and Wireshark.
Nice to Have
- Experience with GIT and SVN version control systems.
- Experience packaging custom Linux distributions with Buildroot.
- Development experience in Agile methodologies and DevSecOps.
- Familiarity with industry cost estimation tools such as SEER-SEM.
