Operating Engineer Crew Chief - Marine Maintenance (Remote)
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Operating Engineer Crew Chief for Marine Maintenance to join our team remotely. In this role, you will lead and supervise a crew in performing a wide variety of manual labor and equipment operations, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with Port standards.
What You'll Do
- Plan, coordinate, and oversee daily field activities in support of the Port of Seattle’s Maritime Division.
- Direct equipment operations and oversee inspections, assigning and monitoring tasks to ensure safety compliance.
- Lead and direct crew members in operating a variety of equipment for maintenance tasks and construction projects.
- Supervise excavation and site preparation activities, including breaking and removing paving and concrete.
- Serve as the primary point of contact in the field, communicating with supervisors, departments, and contractors.
- Ensure a safe work environment by directing proper traffic control measures at work sites.
- Perform journey-level Operator duties and monitor the use of job tracking systems to document daily activities.
Requirements
- Five (5) years of experience in operating heavy construction equipment and vehicles.
- Two (2) years of experience in a supervisory role.
- High School diploma or GED equivalent.
- Strong technical and mechanical knowledge with various tools and equipment.
- Valid Washington state commercial driver’s license Class A or B.
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and comply with safety regulations.
Nice to Have
- Experience managing and documenting Best Management Practices (BMPs).
- Certification as a Certified Erosion and Sediment Control Lead (CESCL).
- Completion of HAZWOPPER training and OSHA 30 certification.

Who Will Succeed Here
Strong proficiency in heavy equipment operation, specifically with cranes and excavators, to ensure safe and efficient site preparation and maintenance activities.

Extensive experience with technical drawings and schematics, enabling accurate interpretation and implementation of project plans while mentoring junior crew members.
