Network Engineer - Large-Scale Production Networks

$320K–$405K/year

About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Network Engineer to join our team at Anthropic, focusing on large-scale production networks. This Network Engineer remote position will allow you to work on our private multi-cloud backbone, optimizing our infrastructure for efficiency and performance.

What You'll Do

  • Build the network observability stack, designing and deploying telemetry pipelines that turn packet counters into actionable data.
  • Analyze inter-region traffic patterns to identify hot links and stranded capacity, quantifying the dollar impact of your findings.
  • Own QoS and traffic engineering, ensuring that bulk checkpoint transfers do not starve latency-sensitive inference traffic.
  • Drive cost attribution, linking network spend back to the teams and workloads that generate it.
  • Collaborate with Systems Networking and Observability teams to integrate telemetry platforms and improve network architecture.
  • Automate network configurations and develop tools that translate efficiency findings into impactful changes.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience operating large-scale production networks, particularly in data center fabrics and backbone/WAN environments.
  • Deep knowledge of BGP, ECMP, VXLAN/EVPN, and L1/optical basics.
  • Experience with major cloud service providers' networking models, such as AWS or GCP.
  • Proficiency in writing Python or Go for automation and tooling.
  • Strong quantitative reasoning skills, capable of turning data into defensible cost models.

Nice to Have

  • SRE experience for large-scale network infrastructure.
  • Background in cloud networking product teams.
  • Familiarity with AI/ML infrastructure traffic patterns.

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary range of $320,000—$405,000 annually.
  • Visa sponsorship available for qualified candidates.
  • Flexible working hours and the ability to work remotely.
  • Generous vacation and parental leave policies.
  • A collaborative and inclusive work environment focused on impactful AI research.
