Middle Office Analyst - Energy Trading Operations
About the Role
We are seeking a Middle Office Analyst remote to join our global Trading Operations team at Engelhart, based in our London office. This role focuses on UK & European trade operations while providing ad-hoc support to our North American Trade Control team. As a Middle Office Analyst remote, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth functioning of our trading operations.
What You'll Do
- Ensure the continued development of your team and provide cross-training for coverage during outages.
- Prepare and assist in daily P&L and position reports for multiple businesses, particularly within the European physical and financial Power & Gas markets.
- Perform daily reconciliations of trades and positions.
- Act as a liaison between trading desks, counterparties, and FCMs.
- Manage static data setups for internal systems (products, prices, etc.).
- Comment daily on P&L movements and explain major positions and risks taken by the desk.
- Reconcile internal systems versus external counterparties.
- Liaise with stakeholders (market risk, ALM, operations, finance, IT, business managers) as the main reference point for various aspects related to these businesses.
- Engage proactively in internal projects to enhance processes and controls.
Requirements
- Minimum of 3 years of experience within a commodities trading environment, with expertise in Physical and/or Financial European Power & Gas markets.
- Strong understanding of futures and options P&L drivers, with the ability to analyze and explain basic P&L movements linked to trading activity.
- Knowledge of exchanges: EEX and ICE.
- Familiarity with trade flow at commodity exchanges.
- Proficiency in Excel is essential; additional programming skills such as VBA, Python, and SQL are advantageous.
- Comprehension of risk management (VaR, drawdown, Greeks) is a plus.
- Proactive and self-directed with good interpersonal skills.
- Ability to develop solid working relationships across functions.

- Experience with data analysis tools and risk management software.
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements in the energy sector.
